Apache Software Foundation Announces Two New Top-Level Projects: Artemis and Wayang
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) proudly announces Apache Artemis and Apache Wayang have achieved Top-Level Project status, enhancing their global impact in messaging and data processing.
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has announced that Apache Artemis and Apache Wayang have achieved Top-Level Project (TLP) status. This significant milestone elevates both projects within the ASF, which serves as the global home for essential open-source software.
Apache Artemis is a high-performance, multi-protocol open-source messaging platform. Designed for modern microservices and cloud-native applications, Artemis originated from the Apache ActiveMQ project. It delivers exceptional message throughput and supports industry-standard protocols such as AMQP, MQTT, and STOMP. Its flexible architecture allows it to function as a standalone broker, be embedded directly into applications, or integrate smoothly within Java EE application servers.
Christopher L. Shannon, Apache Artemis PMC Chair, commented on the transition: “Becoming an ASF Top-Level Project opens new opportunities for Apache Artemis. With our dedicated contributors and the Foundation’s support, we are poised to elevate the project’s impact and broaden its reach.”
Apache Wayang is a unifying data processing framework engineered to seamlessly integrate and orchestrate multiple data processing systems, offering flexibility and enhanced performance for complex data applications. Its unique three-layer architecture abstracts the complexity between applications and underlying data systems, facilitating smooth integration across diverse platforms like Apache Flink, Apache Spark, TensorFlow, and various databases. A key innovation in Wayang is its cross-platform optimizer, which automates data system selection, simplifying complex platform choices for users.
Zoi Kaoudi, Apache Wayang PMC Chair, expressed enthusiasm: “Achieving ASF Top-Level Project status is an exciting milestone for Apache Wayang. This, combined with strong community momentum, positions us to significantly enhance the project and engage even more developers.”
The ASF is committed to fostering robust and durable communities, recognizing their importance for the long-term success of open-source projects. Through its services and mentorship, including the Apache Incubator for new projects (podlings), the ASF guides communities in adopting 'The Apache Way' and building resilience throughout their lifecycle.
The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), established in 1999, is the world's largest open-source foundation, responsible for pioneering some of the most widely used software projects globally, including Apache Airflow, Apache Cassandra, and Apache Kafka. The ASF continues to drive open-source innovation, setting industry standards for the public good.
